Cabinet votes to close Ships and Castles

Cabinet made their decision.

All the Cornwall Councillors for Falmouth attended and spoke against it, but Conservative Cornwall Council Cabinet have decided that Falmouth’s only public swimming pool is to close within the month. Cabinet members didn’t even seem to know what the figures in the 2 bids to save Ships and Castles were!

Schoolchildren have been unable to have their statutory school swimming lessons and despite the last minute sop & promise to ‘work with stakeholders’ there was no commitment & no money for a new pool or sports centre.

Labour Exeter City Council have a brand new £34 million pool being built for the city. Plymouth City Council have taken on their pools, but Conservative Cornwall Council are closing ours!

No one rode to the rescue. No last minute appearance from Michael Gove or the MP. Just us local councillors.

We will fight on to save the headland, save Ships & Castles and provide Falmouth and Penryn with the sports facilities they need and deserve as the most populated towns in Cornwall.
