So proud to have an endorsement from the National Union of Mineworkers

Anyone who has known me for a long time will understand how

for my bid to be selected as Labour candidate for my constituency of Truro & Falmouth in the next general election.

After I qualified as a solicitor in the late 1990s, I left the commercial firm where I had completed my training and moved to a law firm that acted exclusively for trade unions and their members, OH Parsons & Partners.

We acted for members of a wide spectrum of trades unions from UCATT, the construction workers union, to TGWU, transport workers, (including BA cabin crew who were my responsibility for a while) to UNISON. But my firm had a special relationship with the NUM. My senior partners had spent the year of the miners’ strike travelling to represent picketing miners across the country and we as a firm acted on their behalf after that. I became, I believe, the first female solicitor to advise miners in their Mansfield office!

There’s obviously a long tradition of mining in Cornwall, but this is an endorsement that also means a lot to me on a personal level. So when I received the following from the current General Secretary, I was really touched. ——- “I can confirm that at its recent meeting the National Executive Committee unanimously agreed to endorse you for Labour Party Parliamentary candidate for Truro and Falmouth.

May I take this opportunity to wish you the best of luck.” ——- Thank you to the NUM.
